The Senate passed the coronavirus funding bill today for trump to sign and later to take full credit for creating.

Libertarianasaurus Rand Paul was being a dick as usual:

“The bill did face one final hurdle on Thursday in the form of Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.). The libertarian-minded GOP senator wanted to use money from foreign aid accounts to offset the billions in coronavirus spending, but senators easily set aside his amendment. Paul was the lone senator to vote against the final measure Thursday.”

“I think that we should not let fear or urgency cause us to lose our minds,” Paul said ahead of the vote, “and cause us to act in an irresponsible fashion.” -The Hill

Ironically “irresponsible fashion” aptly describes the entire GoP.

On U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton, a GW Bush appointee:

WIKI: In fall 2005, the judge was driving his wife and daughter to the airport for a vacation when he came across an assailant attacking a cab driver on the side of the road. Walton tackled the assailant and subdued him until police arrived. The D.C. police spokesperson noted in response, “God bless Judge Walton. I surely wouldn’t want to mess with him.”

Thanks to the primaries and covid-19, there’s no talk of immigration on this site right now, so I have no idea where to put this, but it’s a good reminder…

Fred at Slacktivist had this in his daily thread today:

Remember the Alamo? That battle came to an end on this day in 1836. The slain defenders of the Alamo have become the stuff of legend here in America, where they’re regarded as heroes. Given that, perhaps it’s useful in 2020 to also remember they were illegal immigrants who had taken up arms, in part, in response to anti-immigrant rules imposed in the border region.

History is written by the victors. (I know that’s a quote, but from whom? Probably Marx.)

The Alamo defenders are revisionist heroes. After the fall of the Alamo there was a period about a hundred years where (almost) nobody cared. The Alamo was converted into a store and a warehouse. Only later did someone dig through history looking for heroes to ascribe values and motivations to. Something similar happened to the Pilgrims.

Anyway, didnt mean to pull it too far off topic.

I simply cannot get my head around why ANYBODY would vote for this.

Living off my grandkids to own the libs

No, seriously, if I didn’t give a fuck about my grandkids, I would fail to see the downside.
