What is that from?

The animatrix: the second renaissance.

Feels appropriate when i see “leaders” applauding a stimulus package here and a stimulus package there.

Might be the only way to get Trumpies to read it, and they’re least likely to do the right thing if they don’t

He will kill us all.

(he has consistently underestimated the scope of the problem, and he has consistently believed that the epidemic is beholden to imaginary deadlines.)

Once again he’s saying out loud the part that’s supposed to be the inner monologue.

This is bizarre, actually. Why would the Trump administration want to identify Arabs, etc. (MENA, also known as WANA) as white? It does a good job of erasing the group from demographics and thus future services, is my guess.

Arabs and people from the Indian subcontinent actively fought to be included in the white category. For the same reason that European ethnic groups did, though less officially. It was to be able to take advantage of the privileges offered that category. I think this is the book that covers that history (or at least from the South Asian perspective). They fought to be included along the lines of the “model minority” thinking.

I filled ours online and after I selected “white” it wanted me to tell them my heritage. I selected “other” and wrote in don’t know.

Does it really matter if I’m Irish and Welsh vs. Scottish? My grandparents on one side were from Wales and the other side were from England (but their parents came from Ireland). I couldn’t figure out why the fuck this mattered.

FWIW, here is their reasoning at least on race:

And an NPR story on the expansion to include a question about ethnicity:

Best of luck with that. Everyone thinks they are Irish.

Especially this time of year.

Certainly, minority groups fight to be able to come to the table with the majority. The way to do that in other generations was to be assimilated, rather than push for open diversity. But now, Arabs are being put in a double bind of being openly prejudiced against (for presumed extremist Muslim beliefs) and hidden from view (which also helps boost the ‘white’ numbers in an increasingly diverse population).

I agree with you, I was just pointing out the why they are considered white.

Gosh, that’s the first time anyone involved in the census, sociology, anthropology, biology, genetics, or genealogy has ever heard that joke.
