Is it ironic that Iām not sure there is any kind of Nazi I donāt hate.
Shit. What a complete and utter self-own, particularly at this point. Beyond the obvious and up-front human rights facet of the proposal, itās just completely stupid at a point when the US and the world are trying to recover the economy. The contribution visiting students make in advanced research should not be underestimated, and many of those students stay in the US to become leading researchers at high-tech companies, developing important technologies. Iāve personally worked with many Chinese-born researchers who have invented truly incredible technologies in medicine and bioscience.
With it written in all-caps like that, I suspect itās one of those painful backronymād act titles, but Iām super afraid to even try and work out what āSECURE CAMPUSā might stand for.
1882 called. They want their law back.
Any bets that the proposed law gets an amendment to its statement of purpose so that it starts referring to the āChina virus?ā (I suppose I should get used to calling it that, since my betters say thatās its proper name, and referring to it by the name the scientists use is supporting the enemy!)
What disturbs me is how the most rabid Trumpeters that I see around here are so young. Itās not just āonce the Boomers have died off, things will get better.ā
It could be something like Systematically Exclude Chinese from Universities with a Racist Explanationā¦ they donāt have even to try to come up with a veneer for it any more.
Remember that at this point, Republicans consider scientists to be The Enemy. If their proposal destroys the scientific establishment, thatās not a bug, thatās a feature.
Even if it takes āThe Economyā with it?
Iām not sure if this is the mail-in ballot bullshit that Trump was lying about on Twitter, but this is some mail-in ballot bullshit, for sure. Interesting, because it pits a far-right bullshit factory against the Republican Secretary of Stateā¦
At last check, this was already an open issue for Democrats (even former Republicans turned Democrat).
So the issue here is that based on all accounts of how Twitter treats other accounts, his account should get a ban for some amount of time. Additionally, the DEMS and GOP should all be in lock step arm-in-arm literally freaking out about this and condemning the POTUS together.
Why would they do something so bi-partisan? Because the GOP is not immune to this eitherā¦
But this would be reasoned and smartā¦so it will never happen in this dumbass timeline.
A friendly reminder that a man with this kind of perception of reality is always within a few meters of the US nuke launch codes
Will no one rid me of these turbulent Democrats?
Bogus DMCA trademark claim takedowns.
That could happen, and, like Henry II, Trump could get away with it by making deals.
This thought brings me no comfort: There are other timelines that may even now still be described as being āreasoned and smartā (in comparison, of course), but only because the technologies didnāt exist then to help reveal hidden ādumbnessā, which thereby supported those other timelinesā generalā¦ naivete?ā¦ which created the illusion of āreasoned and smartā.
Unfortunately, I donāt drink.
Not even explicitly calling for his followers to harass a Twitter employee is enough to get him banned.
Itās the internet equivalent of shooting someone on 5th Avenue. He really can commit any crime he wants to.
Not even threatening to murder protesters will get him banned.
Zuck seems to be cool with it
