šŸ–• šŸŠ šŸ¤” A Continuing Round-Up of Trumpian Events šŸ–• šŸŠ šŸ¤”

More of that wondrful ā€œrunning government like businessā€ we keep hearing about. Upper management makes an ignorant, impossible and self-destructive demand, and then publicly sacrifices the yes-mam middle.manager who tried desperately to bend reality to their ā€œGenius CEOā€'s ā€œvisionā€ when the decision proves disastrous and the company hemorrages VC and real cash.

Not strictly ā€œTrumpian,ā€ but certainly Trump-adjacent. Bonus book-burning content!

Holy shit. I already know the answer, but who the hell hosts a book burning unironically?

I love you hamberders.

And this is how the book burnings started in the 1930s.

On 6 May 1933, while Hirschfeld was in Ascona, Switzerland, the Deutsche Studentenschaft made an organised attack on the Institute of Sex Research. A few days later, the Instituteā€™s library and archives were publicly hauled out and burned in the streets of the Opernplatz. Around 20,000 books and journals, and 5,000 images, were destroyed. Also seized were the Instituteā€™s extensive lists of names and addresses. In the midst of the burning, Joseph Goebbels gave a political speech to a crowd of around 40,000 people. The leaders of the Deutsche Studentenschaft also proclaimed their own FeuersprĆ¼che (fire decrees). Also books by Jewish writers, and pacifists such as Erich Maria Remarque, were removed from local public libraries and the Humboldt University, and were burned.

Burning QUILTBAG books is literally what the Nazis did.

Iā€™m not sure what to make of this, though doubtless it will turn out to be the prelude to something terrible.

Itā€™s wild folks who talk that nonsense not realizing thereā€™s some Latino families that have been on the continent longer than most of ours. Like mine at the earliest came around during the American Civil War and observers for the Germans (union side) and then the rest of the family came back in the 1880s.

An interview with Stacey Abrams at the Brookings Institution. I would like more of her please, and a lot less of Bernie, Biden, and Harris.

Transcript here.

Voter suppression acts as a means of denying those policies reality and it is baked into the DNA of America. It has been perfected in recent years, in the last two decades, in a way that lets us forget that itā€™s real because it has so many pieces, and thatā€™s the architecture.

Voter suppression isnā€™t simply saying you canā€™t vote. Voter suppression is both a physical activity, but itā€™s also a psychic effect. Telling people their votes wonā€™t count, telling people that the system is rigged has the act of actually stopping people from trying to use it.

As of right now ā€“ not counting people who are serving in an ā€œactingā€ capacity ā€“ Donald Trump currently has no Secretary of Defense, no Secretary of the Air Force, no Homeland Security Director, no FEMA Director, no ICE Director, no Secretary of the Interior, no United Nations Ambassador, no White House Communications Director, and no White House Chief of Staff. And thatā€™s not a comprehensive list.

Two days old, so itā€™s out of date. At least three of the fifteen positions vacant that would be involved in 25th-ing Trump. (Not that that would happen.)

Too right.

Brian Hook, Sr. policy adviser to Mike Pompeo was asked about the timing of the designation on NPR this morning. The more he denied that the designation was related to the Israeli elections, the more convinced I became that it was entirely about that.

I know nothing about Benny Gantz, but I would love to see Netanyahu/Likud voted out. Thereā€™s absolutely no hope for resolution of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict with him in power.
