Nah, with few exceptions the a-#1 incentive for any congresscritter is to Get. Re. Elected
They’re just badly misjudging the facts on the ground, and have let themselves get led down the garden path of “oh, this’ll just be one doubtable accusation. Or two. Or three now… oops…”
I mean, Dean Heller? Ted Cruz? What are you all thinking?? Dollars to donuts, do an exit interview with someone (especially a woman) in their electorate who pulled the lever for Beto or Kyrsten as to what motivated them, what got them to the polls? Rank disrespect for women is gonna be high on the list.
SOME -hopefully- being the operative word here. I have no doubt there are some in the Senate willing to sacrifice their own political life for this SCOTUS stacking, but are there 51? Or even 50? Will Ol’ Turtleface take the chance? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…if this nomination even makes it out of committee.
In my younger days I learned that I’m a blackout drunk. I’m usually very good at handling my liquor but there’s a tipping point that can come on suddenly if I’m not careful. Fortunately I just go to sleep and I’m not belligerent or confrontational to anyone. It’s a very out-of-body experience though - like a light that’s just suddenly switched off. I don’t remember anything after a certain point and there’s simply a gap in time that’s just gone.
It’s scary enough that I’ve learned to avoid getting to that point now but there are at least half a dozen incidents in my past that I sincerely would not be able to remember if called on to testify.
