When I first heard about this part of his career I was in no way surprised. Certain workplaces just attract sadistic bullies, and that’s just as true of Guantanamo as it is of the Republican Party. “The Cruelty is the Point” is their shared motto.

He’s a war criminal. He has committed crimes against humanity.

It’s that simple.

It’s his most presidential trait!

To reiterate: DeSantis was there as a Naval JAG lawyer, which meant it his job to ensure that everyone was being treated humanely.

Doing this requires that you believe that those in your charge are human, and therefore worthy of being treated humanely. He was perfectly suited for the job the government wanted done.

Sadly, his Guantanamo actions are in plus column for the MAGAs.

And others. Marc Thiessen is a columnist for the Washington Post who spent the time from 2002 onward advocating for brutal torture to anyone who would read or listen. In the face of claims from the CIA and others that torture doesn’t work, in the face of evidence that it violated all sorts of international law, he continued to use major national platforms to advocate for it. The Washington Post hired him as a columnist knowing all of this.

It’s a feature, not a bug.

Oh fun. Another job he was terrible at.

Or not. Perhaps he was there merely to provide an alibi for others.

Now war criminal DiSantis is promising to screw up the military if elected president. He pissed on the memory of those fallen by bringing this shit up during Memorial Day.
