It is interesting to me that in all of the Florida parks, they try to incorporate a similar free-play area: The Boneyard in Animal Kingdom, Honey I Shrunk the Kids in Disney Studios etc…

As a kid, Tom Sawyer’s Island was the place to safely leave the parents while us kids ran around the island playing “Ditch 'em” (which to us was group on group hide and go seek/capture the flag).
As an adult, the island is the remaining refuge that I know of to get a respite from the park itself…
