It’s nice to say this unironically: Not all cops.
not dating exactly but something about that. i was living in new york since 2000, and its generally a very liberal bubble - at least if you aren’t hanging around with rich people. i got used to being able to not think about politics when meeting people because pretty much everyone is on the same page. my situation changed and i moved back to iowa for a couple years and started hanging with a group of people who were a bit more politically diverse. i tried so damn hard to see past politics but eventually I had to distance myself from the Trump supporters. They might seem nice on the surface but dig just a little and you get these nasty vindictive attitudes on race and social class. That they might be giants song “you and your racist friend” was going through my head a lot.
This is true. If they’re nice, they’re nice because of tribalism. Having a diverse group of friends has made me see things from other perspectives and not “other” entire groups. Not true for the Trumpers. If they somehow make a friend from a minority group, they write that friend off as one of the “good ones” while continuing to other that group. If you’re in their tribe, they’re nice to you, otherwise they couldn’t hate you more.
Periodic reminder that too many politicians are just the dirty scummy froth floating on top of the boiling potato-pot of society.
This could also be called representation were it not clear that the person at the center of this drama is trying to make representation a thing of the past.

Based on the title, I wanted to be angrily dismissive of this oped, but it made some good points that bummed me out. It didn’t convince me that impeachment was wrong, but was a heavy reminder of why it isn’t being as…effective as past impeachments. Particularly the reminder that Trump’s whole strategy has always been reminding voters that everyone is corrupt, but that he’s corrupt in the best ways. Also that turning impeachment on Hunter Biden pits an abstract sense of “constitutionality” against pretty easy-to-grasp old-school nepotistic corruption. woof. these times.
Then it should go in Trumpian related events, instead; this thread needs as much positivity as it can get.
I debated internally, as the admin of a discourse instance myself, but decided that weighting various resistance strategies could be classified as resistance. But your note on thread tone is a good one that I’ll take into account in the future.
That judge is a real bollard-blocker.
Understood.
I specifically requested this thread because talk of that orange fucker dominates so much of my waking life right now; we all need something to help keep our morale up.
I can’t wait until people start suggesting that statues of Jefferson Davis should be replaced with statues of Jonathan Davis from Korn
Dolly Parton is a national treasure, though.
I met him very briefly when his band toured Detroit; he seemed like a nice enough guy, so why not?
A bust for a bust??
Thought about going there and demurred. You are braver than I!
Okay, that’s it. To the rack you go.
Aye! It’s a good day to die upon the spears of internet shame.
(Dolly is awesome! I have misgivings about her 'murican theme park however.)
Was listening to this tonight on the way home from a Holiday party:
Classic. Miley does a great one too:
LOL, my Kentucky grandma dragged me there when I was a kid.
I hear it’s actually great fun, if you embrace with the proper campy spirit…
