A few weeks before, heād taken a phone call from Steve Bannon, and asked him to put in a word for him as a prospective head of the U.S. Marshalās Service. āCan you imagine me being Marshal,ā he asked Bannon, āand your main job is to lock up fugitives, including illegals?ā
āThink of that,ā he went on. āI would have a gun and badgeā in case āthe president wanted to put me on a special assignment.ā
āThe director and each United States Marshal are appointed by the President of the United States and subject to confirmation by the United States Senate. The District U.S. Marshal is traditionally appointed from a list of qualified law enforcement personnel for that district or state.ā
Does being convicted of a crime disqualify a potential candidate?
I would hope, for fuckās sakeā¦
SMGDH
thereās that pardonā¦
(and although some observers think of it as bullshit, guess who gave him that pardon?)
Thatās just it; a pardon isnāt the same as not being guilty or being acquitted. In Aparioās case, a pardon means he got convicted, but didnāt have to deal with any legal consequences associated with said conviction.
If only it had been one of those Richelieu notesā¦
By my order and for the good of the state, the bearer has done what has been done.
He even tried to expunge the record and it was blocked because a pardon doesnāt erase a conviction.
Exactly.
Between that disqualifying requirement and the fact that the Senate would need to confirm him, may this particular fuckery never come to pass.
Thread:
A thread of right wing propaganda:
Iām not sure how seriously people are taking that, and I guess weāll see over the next few days, but that smacks of a constitutional crisis and a reason for urgent removal from office. For the executive branch to so blatantly refuse to implement such a recent piece of legislation that was specifically crafted and passed to avoid a veto is an illegal veto-by-other-means. Then again, I think this is the sort of thing that legal experts are going to freak out about but 95% of the population is going to see as relatively unimportant.
Sounds like a spite move to me:
āThe office was created under former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to work with the Treasury Department to coordinate sanctions across multiple departments in both agencies.ā -thehill
I just read this quotation from Trumpās speech declaring the opioid epidemic an emergency:
We can be the generation that ends the opioid epidemic.
This is really more about his speech writers than about him, since that looks like it was on-script. But come on. The opioid epidemic is a problem that America manufactured itself within the last two decades. This is the equivalent of Nixon saying, āWe can be the generation that ends the war in Vietnam.ā
