Indeed. Corn and soybean country by me. I am not sure I have ever seen a cotton field growing.
I know I haven’t.
True that. Sharp as hell.
Picking tobacco was no school field trip either. I am surprised that we haven’t heard more about slaves dying of cancer because after a day of picking leaves your hands are black from the nicotine stains. Maybe it doesn’t work that way.
Unfortunately, the cotton gin only made the processing of cotton, separating the seeds without damaging the fibers, practical. Harvest was still hard stoop labor. I’ve read arguments that slavery was becoming uneconomical in the south prior to the cotton gin. The revolution it caused was vast acreages of cotton and increased demand for slave labor and human misery.
I was actually faily skeptical of the 8% and wanted to see more data. Returns filed early seem to me like an inherently skewed sample so without a multi-year analysis showing that those returns predicted the whole I was ready to find out that the figure was an illusion. Turns out I was write about the 100% margin of error, it’s just it went the other way!
Seeing the kind of unchecked abuse and corruption this administration wields, and it’s willingness to engage a street army of shameless trolls, this woman is the fucking picture of bravery and dedication to both America and feminism, and the meaning of self worth.
I genuinely can’t imagine what would possess a person to go forward with this. I mean, I can - you know, anger at being violated, a desire to tell the story, the crushing despair of simply letting someone abuse you because they are more powerful than you, etc. - but wow, I do not like the odds of this ending well.
Odds she has already been doxxed to the alt.right and is in the process of blocking her email now?
“How to Help Throw an Election” by Paul Manafort
Spoken like someone that never had to actually earn a living wage.
Yes, it’s well known in the marketing field that people absolutely hate free.
And who has, in fact, not actually had to earn much of anything. Someone who was born rich and pampered, married wealth and certainly has shown no sign of walking away from it, claiming that being paid a living wage for honest work is equivalent to a “handout” is rich.
Ivanka the questionable overseas labor practices queen? It’s like they realized they can create infinite jobs if they just reuse to pay the people for working! So much jobs! So much create! Economy strong!
I know we’ve somehow normalized talking about jobs as a commodity, rather than a means, contribution or responsibility, but fuck, this is around the damn bend. Given something? Like a job, where they exchange their labor for money? How is that being framed as a motherfucking handout?
I think that for someone who has literally never had a normal job, it’s easy to think of them as “going to an office and being given money to do so”, rather than jobs being actual labor and effort that you exchange for benefits and payment. Ivanka and Trump and Eric are not normal human beings in any sense of the word.
Very true. I don’t know how any responsible news organization could repeat her claim without at least footnoting it with the fact that she was quite literally given every cushy position and/or disposable startup dollar she’s used to suck money out of the economy.
Well, you’ve got to remember the people who matter and do things that are valuable are the “wealth creators”. People who ‘give’ other people jobs.
They magnanimously create the opportunity for the rest of us to pretend to be vaguely useful and the rest of us are just pointless worker drones who should be grateful to be allowed to go to a place of work.
It’s odd seeing a guy who kills his opponents with anti aircraft guns for fun smoking his morning addiction.
This guy is sooo playing trump.
