Iâm reminded of this film (which Iâd forgotten starred Ryan Gosling)?
Iâm not sure what the guy was trying to accomplish? Any ideas?
Some but I dont want to speculate. What I can guess based on the information provided that he lived in the south of the country is that this youth probably wasnt motivated as per that film, nor was he wearing a MAGA hat.
Unfortunately I dont think were going to end up seeing coverage of this in the English language Jewish press and I suspect the Hebrew language press in Israel has enough domestic news already.
I didnât imply otherwise - just noting it reminded me of that film, whatever the guys motivations. Obviously a different situation. Itâs still an attack on his co-religionists, whatever his actual intentions. But thatâs likely the only thing the two really share.
Thatâs too bad. Iâd like to know what his reasoning was.
My personal speculation is that heâs a Kahanist, which can be summed up as âJewish Alt-Righterâ (to the point where theyâre actively reaching out to white supremacists as allies) , but thatâs just due to the demographic and the actions, and I will note that I have zero support for that speculation beyond those points and am waiting on more information (and hope that I am wrong in my speculation).
Cue the folks who are going to go straight to, âThe Jews are making all of this up! Itâs part of their media manipulation!â
That makes this seem so much worse than if was some WASP living in Montana.
Thatâs the real danger here. The antisemitic threat is real.
Exactly. Except that he didnât deface those headstones in the US, but thatâll be ignored quite handily.
Logic doesnât typically enter into these things.
Yep. Oh, I know. Look at people like @dredrotten. He and people that believe as he does, happily defame the entire Jewish people with ludicrous statements, and then says that the purpose of the ADL is not to defend against those statements, but to âtry to hide the truthâ.
Only banned till 4/2⌠thatâs surprising.
But if it is known that the cemetery and JCC threats are unrelated, it might be easier for law enforcement to solve the cemetery desecrations, as they can focus on the local level, instead of searching for suspects that are likely to have coordinated multiple simultaneous antisemitic events.
the kid they picked up has a brain tumor, apparently:
Thanks to the photo in the article linked by @anon61221983 Iâm willing to say that it is very unlikely this youth was a follower of Rabbi Kahane for the simple reason that he isnt wearing tzitzit.
A little but not much more info here
Thanks. This is really fucked up. I mean, calling in bomb threats is always fucked up, but this⌠I donât even know how he rationalized this (or not, if it was related to his tumor), and they are treating his father as complicit at this point, so maybe he was the driving factor?
Just a side thought on that link. It bothers me that when Forward refers to Rabbi Kahane they feel they are excused from kavod haRav and allow themselves to drop the title. Somehow I suspect that they wouldnt ever do the same in regards to someone whose politics they agree with.
I still prefer not to speculate.
The Jewish press in the US has been all over this.
