A Roundup Of Antisemitism: Resisting The Socialism Of Fools

Or maybe Ferengi from Star Trek?

I have heard it said that Tolkien dwarves were based on stereotypes purposely, but I offer no proof. My quick google search on the subject does pop up a few places discussing it in articles… Oh and this quote now:
"“The dwarves of course are quite obviously - wouldn’t you say that in many ways they remind you of the Jews? Their words are Semitic obviously, constructed to be Semitic.”"
― J.R.R. Tolkien
Though the citation link is dead. It appears this was a pretty common deal he dealt with in letters immediately following publication - but I only heard it in passing in the age the work has been 6 huge budget movies.

Man I hate to be the one to do this, but this here artist doesnt understand what “free speech” means as a point of law. Redbubble is not legaly obligated to produce or act as a sales agent for their work. The artist is free and protected by the US constitution to publish and sell on their own but no one is obligated to publish and sell on their behalf.

Also from the redbubble user agreement:

the content does not contain material that defames or vilifies any person, people, races, religion or religious group and is not obscene, pornographic, indecent, harassing, threatening, harmful, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, abusive, inflammatory or otherwise objectionable;

While certainly this isnt the best of things and hopefully it will get resolved, but I hope the artist also takes the time to understand the reality that freedom of speech is a three edged sword, what protects “us” also protects “them” and vice versa. And that is a good thing.

It’s the double standard that she’s calling out. Check out the second link that I posted. She easily found many products that violated the same TOS rule that haven’t been taken down, despite being reported. So her complaint is that, regardless of the wording of Redbubble’s TOS, the staff at Redbubble have shown tolerance towards Alt-Right products that violate their TOS, but are not showing the same tolerance towards other viewpoints. So:

This sword has been sharpened so that it cuts only us, and protects the ones that would use it to stab us.

Dont get me wrong, I’m not saying that redbubble is in any way clean hands. I’d guess 99% of their business comes from not even nudge nudge wink wink IP violations but straight up misuse of trademark and copyright.

OTOH, they are legally free to take whichever political viewpoint they like as a publisher/distributor/reseller.

And the rest of us are free to call them out when they don’t state up front that they’re biased towards the Alt Right as part of their business model.

I don’t think the artist is necessarily confused about what free speech means. The alt-right is very propped up by the misuse of the idea of “free speech” (like I can be racist on Twitter because “free speech”), and people who use free speech as an ideal that we should strive for rather than just a legalism often stand up for racist, misogynist and antisemitic speech. Those same people, who appeal to ideas like, “The best counter for bad speech is more speech” then turn around and try to silence people who argue against racism, misogyny and antisemitism. I don’t know anything about redbubble, but that kind of thing is all over twitter, and pops up on these forums (though around here people can tell the difference between the right to free speech and the right to be shielded from other people get angry at you for the content of your speech).

So they may be confused about what free speech means, or they may just be saying “whatever happened to free speech” to people who regularly bring up free speech in this sense themselves.

Possibly so. It may have been foolish of me to jump to a conclusion on this.

Around 5 or 6, I was asked at a camp where my horns were.

Elementary and Junior High I was one of 3 Jews at the school. There were some awful “games” played like Smear the Queer (of which, oddly, only the Jews were ever the Queers) and Kick a Jew Day. I got into a lot of fights that involved the word “kike” being thrown around. But the most instructional to me was when a parent of a friend refused to give me a ride home during a snowstorm because I might burn up the seats in her “godly” car.

This was all in the 80s.

Assimilation has its limits. We can be American in all senses of the word but pretending to be white in all sense of the word was and remains a fools errand.

Am Yisrael is beyond skin color.
