When I first moved from the city to a rural town in Australia my first hint that things would be different was the annual cover warning on the local paper that we were heading into “SNAKE SEASON”!!!

The high desert in California is the same [snake season], when on the trails you can spot the city folks a mile away with the family dog off lead and the lack of terrain knowledge is a dead giveaway.
Don’t even get me started on the dehydrated ding dongs with 6 ounce bottles of water on a 5 mile hike…
