Ok, I lied. I have a little OCD, so blame it on that. Roughly speaking, 230 g/mol, 3 g/ml so about .01mol/ml or 6.022 x 10exp20 molecules in 0.1 ml. In plain english, that is a hell of a lot.

My favorite takes more to be effective but kills WAY more people: testosterone.

There must be enough of that active molecule on the other side of the world to cure me from there, right?
Meaning you could mail order homeopathic cures without needing to post anything!

Or is homeopathy actually dafter than that? :thinking:

You may be after “energy healing” here. They claim to be able to cure you over the phone, assuming of course you have a valid credit card.

These are odd measurements. Were they applied to other compounds, we’d be talking about “how many pills of ibuprofen” or “how many oranges of vitamin C.”

Why not just ml of ethanol or g of caffeine?

VX is actually not as lethal as some of the other substances listed. This from wikipedia:

The median lethal dose (LD50)—the exposure required to kill half of a tested population—as estimated for 70 kg human males via exposure to the skin is reported to be 10 mg

Once again, thank you Derek Lowe: “Things I Wont’ Work With.” He chronicles the crazy things chemists have been concocting for centuries, that explode violently, are incredibly toxic, or will knock you over with the stench.

I don’t think anyone has a good handle on how poisonous Dioxygen Diflouride is, nobody has ever tried to eat it.

At risk of rules lawyering, anyone have a position on whether scoring should be on ‘dose administered’ or ‘quantity that kills you’?

For most toxins the two are identical(or the latter is smaller if some level of elimination is achieved before death).

For specialists like viruses or prions, though, very much not the case. If judged on ‘quantity that kills you’ their performance is likely good but not fantastic. If judged on ‘dose administered’; their scores shoot up alarmingly since they drive the synthesis of more of themselves in site.

Yeah, that’s what I thought. And if you’re using 25ml shots of vodka like you’d get down the pub, that’s less than a full bottle, and not nearly enough to kill by alcohol poisoning, I wouldn’t have thought. I think the most effective way to kill someone with a bottle of vodka would be to smack them over the head with it, rather than hoping they’d be poisoned by drinking it.

One word. Fugu.

Yep. Known for a long time about Fugu, but the poison part mentioned in wikipedia (getting high off it) does not appear to be correct in the scope and commonality of the practice.

I checked with my buddy whose dad has a sushi place in Tokushima. He had never heard of the getting high thing, although he’s had fugu many times.

Last time this got discussed here, some article posted mentioned only the unlicensed chefs served it with the toxin still present. So it seems like a subculture thing.

Maybe some of the regulars actually living in Japan can correct me if this understanding is wrong?
