Florida has clearly leaked all throughout the gulf coast. This explains a lot of Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and Texas.

I was thinking maybe alcohol was involved, but there aren’t any bars advertised on the web page.
Now if you really want to see drunks mess with animals and ride roller coasters without drinking enough water or putting sunscreen on, head to FL and visit Busch Gardens. It used to be a real Anheuser brewery with a small park and beer garden off to the sides. They shut the brewery once the park took off, but you can still stroll around the whole place with beverages in hand.

El Paso is definitely not the Gulf Coast. Usually it is surprisingly insulated from the stupid of the rest of the state.
Thank goodness they didn’t end up having to shoot the monkeys.

Having worked at zoos, I can tell you that enclosures are generally designed for 1) animal containment which is visually as non-obvious as possible 2) for animal enrichment, and 3) to keep the general public from doing something stupid. Sadly it’s clearly not completely idiot proof…

That was my first thought, too. She endangered those animals by putting them in a position where they might harm her and then have to be killed. For kicks. 
I haven’t read any news coverage, but I hope she’s getting prosecuted or whatever the legal option is to give some consequences to this dangerous behavior.
