…
…on suspicion of interference with a dead body
sometimes legal verbiage is so ‘cute’. (“interfering with whatever the dead body is trying to do? …like rot?” “interfering with someone else utilizing the dead body as a barrier?” “throwing a blanket over a dead body and interfering with its shock value?” “presupposes the ‘body’ was human, yes?”)
Unless they really think the driver murdered the dead person, why would they ask for so much bail? After all, the person is dead. What further harm could be done?
How often are rapists and kiddy fiddlers held on $1mil bonds?
Basically this. Since the driver isn’t talking, has a neck wound and a body apparently hidden in the back seat, she is the prime and probably at the moment only suspect. Given the bizarre nature of the situation, it isn’t a stretch to think she’s also a flight risk.
Not that I approve of how the police are handling the situation, but it is what I would do until I could get more information to form a better picture of what was happening.
And may I add: my sympathies to Liara Tsai and their family and friends. My condolences on their loss.
Police: Former romantic partner charged with murder after Minneapolis woman found dead
Friends remember Liara Tsai
The alleged murderer and the victim were both transgender.
Just for the sake of clarity— The information about the neck wound refers to the victim, Liara Tsai.
The BB author left out a paragraph in their quote of the linked article at the Independent, making it appear as though the mention of the wound was referring to the driver rather than to the victim.
I’m sure that the full story will turn out to be very sad.
