ABC cancels 'Roseanne' because Roseanne Barr is a racist

The way she’s going- she’ll earn a Twitter ban shortly.

Took too long

Another of her tweets from that series when the Ambien excuse fell flat:

i think i know what really happened. It has made me mad, but as I told u-i would leave when they started to try to censor me, so it all worked out

Which is Barr telling the alt-right:

She’s now blaming Ambien for the tweets.

Does anyone know if ‘may cause racism’ is included in the health warnings?

He’s also Andrew McMaster.
And Paul Harris.

Convicted for Assault, traveling on a false passport (Literally, being an Illegal Immigrant!), mortgage fraud, and most recently (what Barr was eluding to) breaching his suspended sentence conditions by “reporting” on an ongoing child abuse case in a manor that could jeopardize the proceedings (itself an illegal act.)
His conditions were almost exactly “Don’t film or report in or near court cases in contempt of court again, or you are going to prison”

He’s now going to prison for 13 months. It’s not a conspiracy - it’s just simple idiocy on his behalf.

Hmm I thought the phrase was one of the kinds a person might use to say “you think you are being nice and very generous to me, Person B, and deserve effusive thanks and bootlicking. But really, you are being condescending and a jerk while giving/doing something most people consider basic courtesy or fairness”

Was Paula Deen also on Ambien? O: it all makes sense now

Edit: I wonder if this is the same stuff that’s turning frogs gay

I had no idea they needed more evidence.

That Roseanne Barr is a racist should come as no surprise to anyone. This isn’t just the first racist tweet she’s made, it’s not even the first racist tweet directed at an African American in the Obama administration, or even the first time she’s compared an African American in the Obama administration to an ape.

I remember first reading about Twitter here on BoingBoing and thinking that it sounded like a pretty stupid idea. Turns out I was right, just not for the reasons I expected. We’re never going to be free of it though, or at least not for a very long time. Identity marketing, brand humanization, and creating the illusion of individual accessibility are core parts of the advertising zeitgeist now, so it’s going to get worse before it gets better.

What shocks me is how many people manage to claim this is “a joke” and “not racist.” Well not really that shocked.

There’s also a lot of talking about Israel and how it’s “hypocritical” for the US media to talk about Roseanne and not Israel.

“Did Jarrett die?”

Is that the bar for racism now? o.O

Twitter is not the cause of Roseanne’s racism any more so than Facebook, MySpace, Friendster, Mastodon, Instagram, Livejournal, Flickr, Craigslist, or any other place a person can post messages for other people to read and respond to. The only difference is Twitter’s vast reach, instant-post-and-response time, and perceived brevity of its messages (which enables its vast reach and instant post-and-response). Some people use broad communication capabilities responsibly and wisely to great effect. Other people get drunk and compare black Obama staffers to apes.

The usual response is - if it was a joke - I’d be laughing.

And really - jokes are the single form of expression in the universe that can’t be racist? What now?

It’s a musical- it can’t be racist?

To clarify, I’m not saying that Twitter made these people racist, I’m saying that Twitter, as a general concept, was a bad idea.

The instant post-and-response and the brevity of the messages effectively form a sieve that filters out any nuance or depth. The nature of the medium itself lowers the level of discourse. That’s not to mention all of the social manipulation going on for marketing purposes, but that’s an entirely different matter.

There’s actually two kinds of jokes – the ones that conservatives tell, and funny ones.

Ambien sucks, while I was on it I got in my car in the middle of the night without shoes and drove while asleep. I quit taking it. If she’s destroying her career because in some kind of sleep state she tweets vitriolic racist garbage (pretty unlikely considering the actual side effects of ambien which are real and I do very much hate), AND if she continued to take it, then she is perhaps admitting a drug addiction (again? can’t remember…) but it really doesn’t change what she said. My dad loves to excuse the deeply horrible and personally damaging and or violent actions he’s taken while drunk because “he doesn’t remember” and really that excuse has worn thin for me and probably a lot of people. If you keep taking the ambien and keep acting like an asshole then you’re just an asshole AND a drug addict. Congrats.

I wonder if she deleted the Ambien Tweets because she realized or someone told her that its makers could sue her. And if they could, can they still do so, even though she deleted them? After all, the big story at the moment is “Roseanne Blames Racist Tweets on Sleeping Pills.”

OK, but why?

I have a friend who is like this. Not the racist part the excuse making. It’s always some reason without any real apology for her poor behavior and always another explanation. “I drank too much. I took this drug. These meds mixed badly. ITS NOT MY FAULT”

It’s always excuse making and blaming other things. Never any sense of personal responsibility.
