When I saw it I suddenly heard/saw this regional commercial from my childhood, with the word “credit” swapped for “tariff”. Paul from the diamond center is the closest analogue to DJT I can think of from growing up in Northern California.

The stock market is such a Vegas-style gamble; it’s affected by tiny rumors, whispers, and pure speculation more than actual numbers or facts. A company can release record-high earning numbers, but if powerful investors don’t like the CEO’s latest speech or a movie/product the company just came out with, their numbers plummet. Right now Wall Street pays more attention to the minute-by-minute shifts in our CEO-in-charge’s tweets and moods than anything else. And he clearly has dementia. So things are a little weird.

I have to wonder which of the crooks in the regime got enough lead time on this Tweet and profited. Brain-dead protectionism can be profitable for those willing to short-sell the U.S. economy.
I’m just glad I won’t be a retiree living on a fixed income during this administration. Today would have been a sucky and scary day if you were.

Oh boy, I had successfully purged that one from my memory. The pained look on the faces of those women… (So more than one connection to current events.)
Reacting to what he says makes sense - what doesn’t make sense is that they pay attention and yet still take what he says at face value. Anyone paying attention should have realized by now that when he says something, the opposite is more likely to be true than what he claimed. When Trump had just said that there was an agreement on trade (when there clearly wasn’t one), the market should’ve gone down at that point, not waited for him to start talking about tariffs again.
