It’s a “fully-functioning” VHS tape as opposed to a USB drive with a fake Blockbuster logo, as we would normally expect.

VHS sucked, let it die. In college I remember seeing some animated film in the theaters (possibly beauty and the beast in rerelease) and being awestruck by the sharpness, the vivid colors, and the fact that it wasn’t interlaced on a CRT.
I thought Romulus was great until spoiler

The last regular release of a major studio movie on VHS was in 2006 (A History of Violence). Coincidentally, also the last time a major Hollywood studio had an original idea.
