This is the Dual-rotor embedded multilink Robot with the Ability of multi-deGree-of-freedom aerial transformatiON, aka DRAGON. Designed at the University of Tokyo, this modular bot can rearrange its shape, from an agile snake to a spiral to a flying “L” shape.

About time!

Let me know when they upscale to 1:1 ration and add the Falcor sports package.

Oh good, more nightmare fuel for a shitty, authoritarian-dominated future.

Looks more like a sea horse.

How is this better than four smaller flying robots?

Dear (largely American) marketeers, politicians and other creative offenders,
Please stop with the randomly Capitalising assorted letters in a descriptive title for something, in a vain attempt to convince Us iT is actually an acronym. Actually IT isn’t, and it just lOoks anything from mildly awkwardly contrived to hUgely embarrassingly ham-fisTed.

(And then insisting on capitalising all the letters of the alleged acronym, when many of the real acronyms are getting demoted to mere words, e.g. Nato…)

Mind you, that ‘Dragon’ thing looks pretty cool!

Jesus. A flying robot snake. That can sneak through holes.

Well, that’s my nightmares sorted out for the next three nights, thank you very much.

Yeah that’s cool. But can it do all of that with a 20kt wind gusting to 55kt?

So it’s basically a flying tentacle.
I guess a starfish or octopus configuration would even be better at picking things up?

Just make it a lot smoother, bigger, and deck it in some papier-mâché and you have a lot smoother free flying version of this:
