American Airlines threatened to arrest me, says woman whose seat was continuously punched by man sitting behind her

I think its an unwarranted and unaddressed accusation in fact all of orenwolf’s comments to me strike me as fairly self righteous.

You’re obviously allowed to think whatever you want; regardless, addressing a site moderator like that seems more than a bit… ill advised.

I didn’t think this was the kind of place that would ban you for disagreeing with a mod… actually i don’t think i even fundamentally disagree with them.

For disagreeing with a mod-- no.

For doing so in a hostile and insulting manner, which is a violation of the Site Guidelines? Maybe.

Stating one’s case respectfully is the best move.

I have no issue with you disagreeing with me. I’m suggesting that I think opinions framed the way you have are not taking into account the gender bias inherent in the situation and too often women are forced to endure the imperfect information trope.

“That’s just like, my opinion, man.”

This is a heavily moderated forum, and
what I do take issue with is calling other users “disingenuous”. We assume good faith here. But it comes with the territory for me. Just don’t assume you will receive the same leeway should you begin making accusations against other members in the same way.

Im sorry if i came off as insulting that was not my intention, I felt insulted by your argument but maybe I was wrong and I replied in anger i will edit the post

You’re not merely disagreeing; you’re actively being disrespectful, IMO.

But this is all off topic now, and I’m done aiding and abetting in that regard.

Totally agree, F that last row guy. Airlines can impose lifetime bans for travelers who behave like that. I’m totally in favor of him having a lifetime ban. No one forced him onto the airplane and into the last row. He could have booked a different seat, chosen not to fly, paid more for a better seat, whatever. It was all his choice to be there and then he was angry about his choice? And yes I fly quite a lot, sometimes I am in the back row, sometimes the passenger in front of me reclines. It’s my choice to fly, it’s my choice to sit in the seat, it’s my choice to not pay for business class or economy plus or whatever.

“I’m suggesting that I think opinions framed the way you have are not taking into account the gender bias inherent in the situation and too often women are forced to endure the imperfect information trope.” probably true I think my view point was possibly clouded by past experiences and i may have expressed it poorly.

The voice of reason.

If she has a medical need to recline, she should notify the airline ahead of time and then raise that sole issue when trouble arises. That did not happen here.

I’m finding this story incredibly upsetting. A much smaller, older, woman was being physically assaulted by a larger, younger, man. When she asked the person in authority for help that person sided with the man assaulting her. She was being attacked and no one would help her. At that point I think she was justified in doing whatever she could to protect herself. Anyone blaming her, congratulations, you are why rape culture exists. Because we apparently think big strong guys should be allowed to do whatever they want to women’s bodies simply because the women can’t stop them, and nobody will help them. I just can’t even fathom the number of people who think using your airline seat as it’s designed to be used is the same as physically assaulting someone who can’t escape you.

They just need to take the recline feature out of the seats or better yet give people more room. Reclining seats causes so much drama it’s simply not worth it. Fights have broken out, flights diverted, and people arrested over reclining. Of course a modicum of courtesy like asking or at least letting the person behind know you intent to recline helps avoid this. Yes I know you don’t have to, but it might make things a little more pleasant.

how about just have bunks instead of seats

I recently flew to Chicago, and I’ve flown many times, and international.

I try to get a flight that lets me pick my seat. That time I couldnt. I got stuck in the very last row, like this ass in the video, and I was right against the window.

I was forced to sit up unusually straight, and couldnt recline.

You can’t always choose your seat on a plane, depending on how cheap you wanna fly man.

The dude in the video may have had no choice in his seat. That is not to defend his childish response.

And you KNOW this how?

They would have to totally redesign every plane for new forms of weight distribution.

Besides- they’d just end up like submarine bunks- and youd feel like a sardine. Look up what submarine bunks looked like- flying would be rows of beds like a matrix pod farm

air passengers are already sardines, we’re just talking about the best way to pack them in the tin
