American toddlers have shot 23 people so far this year

@MaiqTheLiar Yes, really.

@Jim_Kirk - or we could do away with the ridiculous and ineffective security theater around shoes and liquids if you are seeking consistency.

@Dragonbait1 - If we weren’t “allowing” them to ourselves when we wear certain uniforms (police/military) then I’d be fine with not allowing them for the rest of us animals.

Following a statement with “but” kinda’ means that you didn’t mean what you said. And to that I must ask… really?
Is that what you meant?
Are you agreeing with Dragonbait1 that toddler related gun deaths are mitigated buy other deaths?

Really?

Yes, this. Still, gun violence is a growing problem in this country that many (for example, NRA leadership) do not want to even examine, let alone address.

(I sometimes wonder if those states that pass laws like legalizing open carry in bars are really on to something. Mixing alcohol and firearms might be just the solution we need ;-))

What I meant was that, “yes”, each of these deaths is a tragedy.
It is a tragedy and I don’t think that the tragedy warrants certain laws that seem to be supported by the article.

I don’t think that other deaths “mitigate” the toddler gun deaths. If you are asking if I think toddler shootings are statistically likely enough that it should be a concern for everyone, no I don’t think they are.

I do think we have many dangerous things in our everyday lives and we should certainly act responsibly with those things so that we don’t harm ourselves or others, and if you do, you should be held accountable for that harm.

I don’t know why anyone would choose Eddie the Eagle for a gun safety campaign. It’s not what I associate him with.

There was a fair amount of brouhaha in firearm circles when the laws were up for consideration. The NRA position was of course “any restriction of freedom is anti-american”.

I seem to remember bOINGbOING covering one such law that actually killed a child? Seriously.

People who support restrictions on firearms without bothering to read and understand them are just as bad as those who oppose same same. A pox on both their houses!
