For the legal eagles here, is there a limit on how long the judge can do this for? Can he just leave him there for the rest of the trial? More importantly, does he have the will to do that if it’s allowed?

Maybe not. He’s always playing the victim and claiming every prosecution is a witch hunt. He wants pictures of himself in jail to fire up his base and “prove” that he was right.

In his defense, he does have legitimate reasons to be afraid of what will likely happen to him and his family if he puts Trump in jail.
Trump belongs in prison, but I wouldn’t want to be the focus of his mob’s wrath either. Doing one’s duty as an officer of the court isn’t always easy.

I don’t think contempt works that way. IANAL, but my understanding is that contempt incarceration is immediate and unappealable.
If you’ve fucked up so badly that a judge finds you in contempt, you din’t really have any recourse. Notice how, of all T****’s fines, he’s actually paid the contempt fines? They are unappealable.
