I didn’t hate Scalia, but he was actively making the world a considerably worse place. I felt good when I heard he was dead. Relieved, maybe? I mean, the world is just a better place without him doing what he was doing. I think I’m not happier that he died than I would have been if he retired.
But, I don’t know, if you don’t want people to make wicked witch of the east jokes when you die, maybe don’t spend your life fucking with other people’s rights for your stupid ideology. It’s not like anything we are saying here matters to him.
ETA: I don’t know how this ended up being a reply to what it is a reply to, but I don’t think it matters much.
A real jerk who thought he was above the law, and who refused to recuse himself when making rulings that concerned his cronies. The nation is better off without him.
Of course, the GOP has already stated they they’ll stonewall any nominations that Obama makes, because that’s what’s best for the country. Somehow. Idiots.
In case anyone was curious, Quail really are in season in Presidio County Texas (through Feb 29), where the Daily limit is 15 and the possession limit is 45. 45!
So now the ‘strict constructionist Constitutionalist’ (note snark) ‘Patriots’ (face palm) think delaying a nomination for a year is hunky dory… right. Whatever… as long as it Fs with the N in our White House, eh fellers?
Good riddance, now take Clarence Thomas with you.
One wonders if Mssr Pubic Hair will break his silence.
Let’s hope Strip Search Sammy kicks off this weekend as well.
Yeah. This makes me as happy as when jerry falwell bit the bucket. very few people hold the honor of being awful enough that a good portion of the world is collectively grateful that they are gone.
this man spent much of his career either actively making this country a worse place or trying to make this country a worse place. i am sick of watching newscasters and commentators spreading treacle over the corpses of moral and ethical monsters simply because they have died. i was nauseated by the coverage of reagan’s death, similarly with nixon’s. the dead deserve an honest and full discussion of their life’s work and this man’s work was to the detriment of of the political and moral life of this nation. he deserves all of the contempt expressed here and more besides.
Is there any evidence that those who drafted and ratified the Constitution were themselves exponents of this “Unchanging Inerrant Original Intent” approach to interpretation of law?
Quail hunting? In terms of skill and sport, that’s an exercise in pure sadism comparable to stomping on paraplegic guineapigs, with the exception that you can still eat the guineapigs after stomping. Douthat regards this as an accomplishment… a fitting end to Scalia’s career.
I did not realise that sarcasm was part of his repertoire.
