It’s exhilarating to see her tell the truth like this. But also deflating to remember that in the national spotlight, truth no longer matters.

Several weeks ago, I was at a local watering hole. A couple sat down next to me at the bar and one of them struck up a conversation.
She likes to ride. I like to ride. We talked about horses for a while.
Then she asked how I thought Joe Biden was doing.
“I am quite pleasantly surprised,” I said, “I think he’s doing a fabulous job!”
No more friend. She and her partner started going on about Hunter’s laptop. She said she’d seen what’s on it and implied it was kiddy porn.
No amount of, “It’s Hunter’s laptop, not Joe’s, and there’s no traceable chain of evidence on the laptop even so,” could put sense into them. The both stormed out, cheesesteaks unfinished. Wow.

But really, I’m sorry to hear that. I sometimes think id never be friends with a Tromper, and indeed, far as I know, I’m not.
I do have Trompy relatives though. They live far away. I think we’d be on the outs if we lived closer. The outright personal disdain across the political divide now seems like the strongest I’ve ever seen it.

When you have this nonsense being run by the Qanon wing of the GOP, fake evidence is not just all they have, for them it’s indistinguishable from real evidence. The “truth” is whatever they yearn for it to be.

Aside from the whole “they didn’t use the full context” sham, if one of Matt Gaetz’ underage prostitutes was texting with her friend and wrote “I will ask the guy who preyed on me for a financial favor” is that conclusive evidence that Matt Gaetz had sex with underage girls?

This has basically been the method of conservative media since the end of the fairness doctrine, Rush Limbaugh was called out regularly for taking stuff out of context, fudging dates or data to suit his aims, then all the conservative pundits started to do it-- they knew what their audience wanted. Now it’s crept into congressional hearings, read it into the record and it’s crammed into American history like a square peg in a round hole.
