That would certainly be a good argument for his removal, but that’s not the same as saying he was never legally eligible for the office.
The Constitution has only a small handful of legal requirements for who can be President. As long as you’re a natural-born citizen over 35 who hasn’t already served two terms then it doesn’t matter if you’re also a convicted mass-murdering cannibal who ran on a platform of selling our women into slavery to pay off foreign gambling debts. The presumption was that the voters wouldn’t support such candidates.
