Nope, secret ballots only became widespread in the US in the 1880’s. Forcing some one to reveal how they voted may be illegal and it probably should be, but it’s not a constitutional right. Although you could probably make a First and Fifth Amendment argument if an official tried to force some one to reveal how they voted and used that against them.
That’s how it is with apocalypses; very interesting until the power/water/phone/policing/trash/postal/internet services stop and the next door neighbor comes over carrying a shotgun and asks to borrow a cup of sugar.
He’s an aspiring dictator. If 46% of voters (27% VEP) elect him for a second term, he’ll have to figure out how to get a third term. And he isn’t above taking us down the road of tyranny to get what he wants.
Or maybe he decided, in that moment, that saying “It’s none of your fucking business” to the President of the United States would be a career-limiting move…
I’d tweak that to “impropriety”.
He just simply has no idea of what is: normal, correct, lawful, fair.
If the structures of the US government were less robust and less established, he would be an Idi Amin or Qaddaffi (or Putin) in a heartbeat. But he’d be the laziest emperor ever. He wouldnt even have the traditional program of world domination that most dictators have-- he’d simply continuously mold the government to be a more supine device for his egoistic gratification. His latent role model would be Niyazov of Turkmenistan. He’d rename the days of the week, have a Trump Youth, make Art of the Deal compulsory reading in school. And he wouldn’t even have to think up these policies: he’d just set his Rudolf Hess (ie, Stephen Miller) on autopilot to accomplish all this.
Art of the Deal would be compulsory, but would have to be purchased by the student at full price.
Actually the people doing the most leaking are the ones who have some semblance of professionalism and expertise. People who are railing against the incompetence from the Executive Branch, trying to avoid being dragged down into the mire with their bosses. The State Department is practically in revolt and the Secretary of Defense has been trolling his own boss.
Obscure Archer reference in meme form, yay!
In the case of the FBI, “sometimes” is understating it a bit.
The FBI was founded for the purpose of suppressing black and red dissent, and that remains their core function to this day.
