Attempted Coup in the United States: Tracking Investigations and Fallout

Donald Trump apparently doesn’t drink alcohol, not even Trump Vodka. Otherwise I could easily imagine a bartender he once talked to while drunk as say the basis for his whole hurricane response.

Even if he was, the whole doctrine of “Executive Privilege” isn’t even explicitly codified in law and is supposed to be limited in scope.

No reasonable person would conclude that it was critical to America’s national security interests to prevent administration insiders from sharing what they knew about crimes committed by the President in his efforts to cling onto power.

I guess they’re confident that they destroyed all the evidence & locked down the other potential witnesses.

Not after July 2017, anyway, and of course this isn’t about the time before that. But Trump & Co. think (or publicly claim) that it’s valid…

…so yeah, that, and/or they (think they) have their stories straight. (I could see Bannon sticking with – and for that matter, coming up with – the script, but I also see it falling apart, like if relay runners tried to hand off a pudding baton)

So it’s a partisan question, is what you’re saying. :unamused:

I hope that Bannon testifies, and ends up being the one that gives the committee such damning evidence that the DOJ has to move, all the while, he thinks he’s exonerating the former President.

And rests with the current president, too.

The lead opinion—authored by the notorious fringe-right reactionary Justice Rebecca Grassl Bradley—contains alarming language casting doubt on the legitimacy of Joe Biden’s 2020 victory. It also grants credence to the GOP’s collapsing “investigation” to prove that illegal votes put Biden over the top in Wisconsin. Without a shred of evidence, the court has thrown its weight behind a dangerous conspiracy theory that helped to fuel the Jan. 6 insurrection.

Biden won 306 electoral votes to Trump’s 232.

Wisconsin’s 10 electoral votes mean zilch in changing the outcome.

Seems legit. After all, the far right never lies about reality. /s

Looks like Bannon’s testimony is coming soon, though it still disgusts me that he was able to elude contempt charges for so long after initially refusing to cooperate with a congressional subpoena.

I think Trump made a show about “waiving executive privilege” because he is hoping Bannon will be the first witness to provide testimony that makes Trump looks good. If so, that just shows how little he understands Steve Bannon.

“So, my feeling as a prosecutor would be this is a Trojan horse, coming into spread nonsense and to try to come in from inside, blow up the investigation,” said Flannery.

Bannon wants to burn things down and certainly not to reveal any truth whatsoever. So, yeah, of course he wants to efff things up. All one has to do is listen to his show once.

Hasn’t Trump been harping on wanting people to give “his” side of things? I’m guessing that why he wants Bannon in there, because he will do that for him. But I’m honestly not sure what he could do, other than spread lies, which would then be actionable against him.

It just seems a weird move all around, so that makes me really nervous about it. This seems like he’s just trying to play to the base rather than do anything constructive for Trump…

What gets me is that Bannon’s can’t be unclear on the idea that he goes in, gives his wild freak-ass coke-fueled deposition about how Trump was too busy with hookers and blow and bible verses to know what was going on with any kind of potential violent insurrection … and the committee watches said deposition, and just says “so, that completely goes against every single other bit of testimony and verifiable evidence out there.”

He’s gotta KNOW that not merely are they disinclined to believe him, but that there’s a pile of existing evidence and documentation there already?

Absolutely- he’s there to try and fuck things up.

Here’s hoping that he just fucks himself over.

He’s not nearly as clever as believes himself to be, so it’s entirely possible that things he wants to say which seem to be helping his cause are going to fuck him over.
