It doesn’t seem that he was caught “thanks to his bad breath”. The story says that investigators were watching for him in CA and then spotted him, whereupon he confessed. The story also confusingly first says he was identified using fingerprints and then by DNA and his horrible breath.
Can you really identify someone by their breath? Maybe a dog could do it.
Anyway, I’m glad he was caught.
