BBC sacks Jeremy Clarkson

Ha, well put. But when people discuss their opinion of Top Gear, they really often cite his politics. At least in my experience. And granted, that’s absurd.

Ah, I see you’ve met @AcerPlatanoides, then.

What “working environment”? The patient died during ass-removal surgery.

Oh, sure, all of the crew now gets to work on other things. There are other patients to attend to. The surgeons and nurses and associates and friends and family get to move on with their lives and experience joy again. But this patient is dead.

Not excusing punching a dude over burgers and fries at work, but the ass kind of was an integral part that made the end product worthwhile.

The license plate allegedly.

Could have been a coincidence. But, probably not, considering JC is a military history buff (see his program: “Greatest Raid”). Realistically, he probably snuck it by them. He may have tried to do a gag even more offensive, and this was his payback for being snubbed.

This is James May’s explanation. On the one hand, I’d be inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt, as it would be quite difficult to pull off (presumably it’s got to be obscure enough that the BBC won’t spot it, but obvious enough that others will). On the other hand, I wouldn’t put it past JC if the opportunity presented itself…

No, he wasn’t. You’re thinking of the corruption in Rotherham. The Savile case was about the senior staff of the BBC and the hospitals he infested preventing complaints from being made to the police by threats and coercion.

Over the last five years, the coalition government (i.e. the end of the usual one party dictatorship) has had the effect that British hypocrisy has at last been exposed for what it is, and is no longer being tolerated. There is a lot of uncovering to do. Clarkson wasn’t the worst offender by a long way but he has been caught up in the backlash.
A million people may support him but that’s fewer than vote for extremist parties; it really isn’t significant. The majority don’t. On the other hand the majority are going to be electing the next government soon and so have to be listened to.

Incidentally a point that needs to be made about Clarkson is that he is not really from a privileged public school background. He is from social class B. Clarkson’s parents managed to send him to independent schools owing to sudden success in their business, but he was expelled from the last one (Repton). Unlike Stephen Fry, who after having had to leave private school went to State school and Cambridge, Clarkson went to work for his parents.
It would perhaps be possible to speculate on whether he, like Nigel Farage who had a similar history - though he wasn’t expelled from Dulwich, he did not go on to university - has a chip on his shoulder about this which would explain their joint apparent contempt for intellectual pursuits, socialism and so on. But despite the support of Cameron - a bit de haut en bas - Clarkson is not part of the Establishment and it won’t rally round him.

Yeah, allegedly is a great word. The car had the plate since it was first registered. For a show that is known for daubing stupid phrases down the sides of their cars and riding a stars and stripes harley through vietnam, a registration plate that can kinda sorta vaguely be construed to be a hidden reference to the Falklands is so subtle as to be pointless. They don’t care about the reaction they get in Argentina, they care about the easy joke in the UK, and no-one over here was going to get it. So I really don’t buy that it was a deliberate attempt to bait people.

The patient is a TV show with three asses, only one of which was removed.
The working environment is the BBC.

(I don’t mean to imply that the other two conductors have been as irresponsible as Mr Clarkson was here, I’m just following the humor where it takes me)

Now, who will make the point that Jeremy Clarkson didn’t know that violence in the workplace would get him sacked? Nobody? Great, then let me suggest the idea that Jeremy Clarkson has it on himself and nobody else that he’s been removed from the show. If that leads to its demise well, you know who to blame. If you’re into that sort of thing.

Maybe now all the people that were turned off by Clarkson can enjoy the show again - assuming it lives.

I’m really really really going to miss the show ( and no, it won’t be the same…he WAS the show), but BBC had to do something.
I liked the idea I’d heard of docking him a staggering sum if money and giving it to Oisin, but that would have just left the problem in place. JC is the only one to blame here…and I say that as a JC fan.

But what about the people that were weirdly and uncomfortably turned on?

There are probably plenty of pictures and videos on the internet for that very thing.

They seem to have ruled it put…they’re much better off following Clarkson to the next network for “High Gear” or whatever the next incarnation will be called.

Why worry about who’s getting punished? Can’t a rich, dumb asshole get fired without anyone caring that the RDA will claim victory? I applaud the BBC crew who no longer have to put up with his shit.

I worked at a bookstore where an annoying employee got punched in the nose by a coworker (this was back in the Eighties). It ended up in Personnel where the bosses weighed all factors and fired the injured party, as he annoyed everyone.

This anecdote is best viewed as historical rather than prescriptive.
