BBC sacks Jeremy Clarkson

And the Hamster? Was he sober?

Now who has a face like a boiled horse, Jeremy?

I like the show. But, you know, my impression over time was that Clarkson was an ass trying to act like a person acting like an ass. His jokes were regularly truly mean spirited, and I actually do stop enjoying it when I feel that way. Never got that impression from May and Hammond.

Conspiracy theory: the promise of the Mclaren P1 vs Porsche 918 vs Ferrari LaFerrari test was intentionally made falsely, and this incident was manufactured not only to secure Clarksonā€™s position at the BBC, but to get the manufacturers to agree to the test.

They reported in an earlier episode that the manufacturers of the cars wouldnā€™t agree to do it, and then in the second to last episode this season iirc they said they got them all to agree.

So Clarkson, knowing heā€™s on thin ice with the BBC, punches the producer intentionally (as much as a asshole and doofus as he is I was surprised he did something so unintelligent, heā€™s not stupid). The world clamors for the car test and the BBC has no choice but to bring him back - and keep him - and to bring in the big guns to negotiate with the car manufacturers to actually get them to agree to the test.

In reality, I like Top Gear a lot but I do usually dislike Clarkson - yet heā€™s also quite likable. Itā€™s interesting how he manages that. The blatant racism and other stuff was truly boggling - it basically had to be included by the BBC on purpose, for some reason. Hammond and May are visibly uncomfortable in many cases as they are made to pretend like theyā€™re going along with it.

In any case at this point I do mainly watch just for James May, who I like quite a lot. If this just means that James May has more time to make his other shows, which I also enjoy, so be it.
