oh gosh, i have a friend who rents his bees to some farms in N. California from time to time. i’m sure he’s heard about this, but i am going to give him a heads up.
To the Bee-mobile!
And that’s why I never buy bee hives from some guy in a white van.
If only bees had some way to defend themselves.
You do NOT want to face the wrath of beekeeping vigilantes.
I hope the bees are given a “good new home.” But I am not going to support anything that helps the almond industry. They’re almost single-handedly running CA out of water.
Evidently renting bees to almond growers is super stressful on the bees.
it’s stressful for the beekeepers, too, from what i know.
This is terrible. They should set up a sting operation.
I used to be in the water business – just as a rule of thumb, it takes about one gallon of water to produce one almond.
That was so bad, Im breaking out in hives.
Generally speaking trucking bees around is no good for bees. I dunno that there’s anything especially bad about Almonds in that regard. We do this for most large scale monoculture crops that are bee pollinated, seems like almonds just seem to have a spike in demand at the moment.
The linked article explains why almonds are harder on the bees.
Grand Theft Pollinator.
Apiarist stung in hive heist.
