By all accounts he’s a world-class cardiothoracic surgeon, but also a world-class huckster and fraud.
Can’t say I have. Many of the surgeons I have interacted with have been arrogant bastards (I’d assume this is a trait that lends itself well to rooting around inside of a human being), but I’m largely forgiving of that as long as they are good at their jobs.
Isn’t that absolutely assumed unless the patient is Leibniz, in which case there’s room for doubt about the possibility of the infection having originated from the universe?
Oh, they are almost always very good at their jobs. The stereotype of the surgeon who thinks he is God is especially applicable to neurosurgery. Not all, but a solid majority of those I have known. Trouble is, they really tend toward Dunning-Kruger on steroids. When I was an ICU doc, the NS cases were the worst. Not because of the patients, but because the surgeons assumed they knew my job better than I did. (Hint: They did not…)
