I’m beginning to think Musk had that contract sent directly to him and signed it without consulting his lawyers. He completely bypassed legal review because he’s Musk and thinks he knows more than his lawyers. The more I hear about this contract, the more I gape.
It is pretty clear that Pedo Guy is surrounded by people who tell him nothing but how infallibly brilliant he is. His attorneys are on his payroll. Who knows if he has gotten any of them pregnant? They certainly do what he says and wants. A reasonable person would tell him he is making mistakes, but a lawyer hired to do what they are told is not there to offer advice. I don’t suspect free will is a big part of his entourage.
I guess it’s possible he only has lawyers who will say yes to whatever he wants. But I would think they would at least object once? If a lawyer sees a harmful position in a contract and doesn’t speak up, then they are on the hook for the blame later. So, out of sheer self-preservation, they should have said something.
It just astounds me this contract got signed. I’m not a contract lawyer but I can see multiple issues in just the bits I have read about. Telling a client the ugly truths is part and parcel of the job. Not doing so could be grounds for a malpractice suit.
And maybe they did. Maybe they wrote a whole damned essay on how bad the contract was and Musk just ignored them
That seems to be a common theme among oligarchs…
Well, but look at Trump and the lawyers he’s surrounded himself with. I think it’s common that ego-driven men tend to do that, seeking yes people and there are plenty out there who will be that yes men, because they want to be close to what they see as powerful men, because they think it will make them more powerful. That’s no less true for lawyers as for anyone else.
It’s fun reading Twitter threads by lawyers, who alternate between “WTF?!” and “Musk is so fucked!” responses to whatever particular bit of either the contract or Twitter’s lawsuit is being discussed. I have yet to see a single person, at any point, even say, “Well, Elon did something that makes sense in this specific case…” Apparently he’s just consistently screwed the pooch in this case.
For his business stuff, where money is on the line, though? Those people seem to know what they’re doing - they’re pulling Trump’s ass out of the fire after he did something dumb/illegal. It’s his political lawyers who are the incompetent loons. Which makes sense because they’re trying to bring into being a completely different reality and that’s the one they have to operate within. You don’t stay a lawyer for long if you operate that way.
It’s also worth pointing out that even there, lots of his lawyers told him he didn’t have a leg to stand on.
He just ignored those people.
The only way that EM compares to Bobby Fischer is that they both don’t know when to shut up.
“Twitter is largely overrun with bots and fake accounts” is not new information though. If that really was the reason he doesn’t want to buy Twitter then he shouldn’t have expressed interest in buying Twitter in the first place, let alone enter into an agreement committing himself to doing so.
Traditionally, a shit sandwich at least has two pieces of bread. In this case, just slices of turd.
committing himself to doing so while also waiving his right to further due diligence.
