It’s yet another sleazy tactic straight out of the old tobacco industry playbook: once the bad effects of the product can no longer be denied in the industrialised West, shift the marketing effort to less developed nations.

The borrowing of the playbook by other horrible industries and political movements is why I continue to maintain that Big Tobacco is the most destructive and evil industry of the past century.

Thinking exactly the same thing. Though, as @NoThisIsPatrick points out it also has echoes of the original Opium trade as practiced by the East India Company.

I’m not normally a big capital punishment person, but this is creating human misery and causing death on a genocidal level. And then trying to sell the same in China.
