Having worked in Newland, NC in 2001-2008, I saw the devastation of a small town and rural county by these hoodlums. Physicians were paid $2K/evening to shill for Purdue/OxyContin. Despicable🖤

The odds that Sacklers didn’t piss off people who have guns and are willing to use them is almost 0. I don’t think this story is over and since justice wasn’t served one of these people will try to be a vigilantly.

One other thing the Sackler family won’t do is apologize for their starring role in a disaster that killed a half million people

This greedpig family’s lack of remorse will go down with the rest of their misdeeds, forever linked to a name so toxic that it’s being removed from the many museums its carriers endowed.

There’s a lot on his CV, but Giuliani’s role in this should be more widely publicized.

Makes sense. TFG can’t be prosecuted – and won’t apologize – for his half million, so why should they?

Just because their company’s business model knowingly killed uncountable people, and the family knew and participated in running the business, they have to give up Half of their unhidden savings accounts. How can they be expected to survive on only half of what they had pain stakingly socked away for a barebones retirement? Can anyone actually live on only 5 Billion dollars? This is an outrage. Those poor sacklers. Won’t anyone think of their personal future hardship?

In case there were any illusions about where the power lies…

At a press conference announcing the settlement, attorneys general from New York, Massachusetts, and Minnesota noted they were unable to secure a public apology or an admission of culpability.

hell, they even make it sound like they’re doing something charitable:

“This resolution to the mediation is an important step toward providing substantial resources for people and communities in need. The Sackler family hopes these funds will help achieve that goal.”

$4.5bn is a joke

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that the total “economic burden” of prescription opioid misuse alone in the United States is $78.5 billion a year, including the costs of healthcare, lost productivity, addiction treatment, and criminal justice involvement.

Well put. This is absolutely fucking disgusting.

If criminal charges are not being brought where indisputably monstrous crimes occurred, the criminal justice system has blatantly failed its mandate. The citizenry must proceed with the assumption that it can’t be trusted to do its job and proceed accordingly.
