At least four U.S. employees have now been killed as they tried to enforce mask mandates — and all of them were Black essential workers. Countless other Black Americans, who make up a disproportionate share of retail, food, social service, and other frontline workers, have had to contend with anti-maskers’ racist slurs and other abuse — on top of their relatively high rates of Covid-19 infection.
Black workers who lost their jobs during the crisis have also had a rocky return to employment. As of July, the Black unemployment rate was 8.2 percent, compared to 4.8 percent for white workers. How can we make the recovery more equitable — and improve conditions for Black workers before the next crisis hits? We asked nine leading Black labor organizers and policy advocates for their views.
Sure it may have been “legal” but nowhere on this green earth has it ever been moral or justified.
Owens and Elder:
Nothing is more important than the grift.
Yup. Gladstone’s maiden speech in parliament was a tirade on the evils of slavery.
But: property rights have to be respected so slavers need to be paid. His da profited off enslaved people. So he looked after his own.
Fucking Liberals. You know which side they will be on when the chips are down.
So did France, which is part of the reason why Haiti has struggled for over 200 years:
The rest of the reason comes from actions taken mostly by the US, explained here:
This apparently coincided with the renaming ceremony for the fine arts building, which is now named after Chadwick Boseman, who went to Howard.
Honestly, it might have nothing to do with race, as there are cyberattacks all the time, but it just seems suspicious to me. I would not be surprised if there is a white power group that has hackers.
Also, it seems like Howard was able to stop the attack before they got into anything important. That says to me, that they take cyber-security seriously.
Being possibly the most visible HBCU, I would guess they pretty much have to take security of all kinds seriously. And that is a sad statement on the state of the country.
Work IT security guy just reported that we get 45,000 attempts a month.
That’s state actor level in my estimation.
Glad there was progress on this, but wish they’d done more with the bail amount.
Agreed! WTF?
I wouldn’t be surprised if this happened at Howard too. Or some directed right wing effort.
Agreed. As I said, I would not be surprised if white supremacists groups, which are already international, have built up hacking networks, maybe even some that pull from state actors like Russia. I highly suspect that there is some active support for such groups from the Kremlin to some degree.
Ongoing for months here in the education sector.
Given the health sector attack with took out the health system IT for several months and the two colleges were not state level I wouldn’t think that’s a safe assumption.
Depends on your industry, I guess. Definitely a possibility for us.
