Blackhawks fans riot and for some reason it's not sensationalized by the media

I’m not trolling at all. I believe you are trolling. You, at this point, are posting nothing to contribute to the conversation about racism in the media and instead are trying to discredit me by trying to define satire and referring me to other people’s input on this thread.
I’m not sure what your point is.

Perfect. I agree with you there. I’m just saying that if the article is not about what brings the crowds together, why did she have to cite Ferguson/Baltimore?

That’s for the author to answer. Not us to fight about.

Satire is not “joking”, it’s meant to highlight something, in this case disparities in how discuss violence in group settings. Again, Jefferson is asserting that the language used to talk about violence and African Americans (as a systemic problem) would rarely be applied to whites in a similar case.

Strange. I didn’t see any mention of looting and burning- the two features generally required to constitute a ‘riot’. Must have overlooked it…

“Generally required”. By… who? Says where?

I guess it’s pretty easy to be a smartass when you make up definitions for words whenever you like.

Let me get this straight. You’re saying there’s no difference between a large group of people celebrating in the streets with minimal or no violence, to a large group of people in the streets for the express purpose of protesting unjust treatment which leads to quite a lot of violence. Does that about sum up your stance?

I didn’t say any of that. I literally did not say any of that. You’re having to make shit up in order to parade around your little argument.

My stance was that saying a riot required “looting” and “burning”, and that a riot was somehow defined as needing those two things, was something you just flat-out made up out of nowhere.

Yeah, same thing in Oakland with the Golden State Warriors - thousands of people celebrating in the streets with 12 arrests, one for throwing a bottle at a police officer and strangely they didn’t call this a riot either; I’m not familiar with California is Oakland also a very white place? Does basketball have a very white fanbase? http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/Oakland-Fans-Celebrate-Warriors-Win-Responsibly-Police-307880391.html

Protest does not cause violence. Protest often tries to prevent violence. Government responses often involve violence, but the protesters did not cause that.

Protest is protest, indeed. And violence is violence. However, protest can begin violent, become violent, or have violence forced upon it by people who don’t like the protest. Heightened emotional states and whatnot.

Some demographical details for you. http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/06/0653000.html

Hey look: someone who just joined BB to post in this thread has decided that posts by @anon15383236 do not contribute to a conversation about racism.

We’d better keep Stephen Hawking and Neil Degrasse Tyson out of the science threads now that we have a real expert on the board!

So according to Gawker, everyone that isn’t “dark brown” is branded as “white”? That video showed plenty of middle-eastern, asian and latino men.

?

riot - a violent disturbance of the peace by a crowd.

In fact many more institutions than Gawker (jokingly I use the word institutions w/Gawker context) view it just that way.

As for hockey, yes, it’s fans and players are overwhelming white and that’s okay. It’s also being slowly changed, which is even better.

such as it is though, it’s those exceptions that humorously prove the rule. The most popular video clip on twitter etc was http://wgntv.com/2015/06/16/this-mans-reaction-to-blackhawks-win-is-the-best-weve-heard/

Once again, the video is a parody, full on satire.

Ah yes, the day when everyone who isn’t Irish claims to be Irish so they can get drunk…

Do you think anyone realizes it’s more religious in Ireland, cause it’s the patron saint of the bloody place?
