Blade Runner, 40 years old, "the greatest Sci-Fi of all time"

Clearly they became a dwarf, giving us a timeline that inevitably will lead us to Snow White / Blade Runner crossovers.

The last one has a better theme song.

In the deluxe DVD box set there is a short clip of her.

I found the “making of” documentary in the box set really interesting, if overly long. The script went through multiple re-writes by different people over the course of years, and the sets and special effects were so involved that I doubt Hollywood would allow anything like that now.

Yep. Did NOT work for me. In the slightest. Tried again during the anniversary/revival/whatever. Still no.

I’m more of an ‘Alien’ or ‘2001: Space Odyssey’ kinda guy. Or hell, ‘Terminator’. BR: didn’t get it, didn’t care to try.

He was an unfortunate collateral damage in a grander scheme, and his condition wouldn’t have let him live much longer anyway… Not to defend R. Batty.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the film, but I’m not certain what reason Batty could have had for killing him. It seems a bit of a flaw in the film, as I think the filmmakers did want us to have sympathy for Batty.

It bothered me at first but I came to see Roy as taking revenge on the entire system that created him, so Sebastian and Chew (“I only do eyes”) have to die along with Tyrell, they all had a hand in it.

[ETA: also, the idea that all the characters are both good and bad applies to Sebastian too. He seems lovable, we maybe feel sorry for him with his genetic condition, but then he makes “toys” out of living things, like that poor guy in the helmet on his desk with his mouth propped open.]

Interestingly enough the same screenwriter that co-wrote Blade Runner also did the screenplay for 12 Monkeys (which was a remake of La Jetée).

Not entirely relevant to the discussion here, but I thought it was an interesting link since you mentioned La Jetée (which I agree is an outstanding short film).

I and some school buddies saw that in a theater when it first came out. The giant ogre-satyr tripping over himself and with a bellowing “Oh, shit!” then plummeting onto a parapet then exploding upon impact…an instant classic. The audience loved it.

It was a good year. John Carpenter’s The Thing was my last film as a civilian and Blade Runner was my first as a soldier.

Yeah, I don’t understand that either. He seems like he could have easily been convinced to help the replicants.

Clearly the script needed him out of the way, so the Bradbury Building could become a funhouse for the showdown but that could have been achieved another way, e.g. by him coming along to Tyrrell HQ to open the biometric locks and being killed by security. Or even him being killed by Deckard by accident when he first comes into his apartment.

I doubt many would agree with me, but I liked Blade Runner 2049 better than the original. Visually beautiful, and the story was better.
