Anyway, here we are again, with two weeks to go, one deal on the table which no-one likes. The Speaker is heavily hinting he won’t allow it to go on to the order paper because it hasn’t changed from the last time it was voted down by a huge margin. Even if he did, it probably would get voted down again.
Have we got to the bit of Brexit history which starts to repeat as farce rather than tragedy?
The Thatcher/Blair economy cannot continue without a scapegoat, and that scapegoat has to be “wogs are ruining the NHS” and “bureaucrats in Brussels are sapping your vital orgones”. Many of them might prefer that people act on those beliefs by beating up brown people on the street vs inconveniencing the banksters, but in the end you cannot separate the enterprise.
