There’s no such thing as rape culture. Not all men. It’s all good fun. And the vast majority of women deserve to be brutally murdered anyway.
Besides who doesn’t have a rapist friend that, ya know, I mean… but whatever he’s your buddy and besides if we criticize cops for raping and murdering people then who will protect us from rapists and murderers ??? Right?
Just shut the hell up and get to the part where nothing changes and we all agree this is fine already.
Sincerely, every major media outlet since the day my grandmother was born.
Was he engaging in rape prior to getting his nickname? Was it partially a case of nominative determinism? Don’t fucking joke about rape.
As we say across the pond, Adios Asshole.
Dunno but if you are calling your colleague that and allowing him out on his own to harass women maybe you are also the problem?
I can’t even bring myself to do my usual “one bad apple” joke because, holy shit, this is bad. Like, what’s the point of cops again? What could possibly bring a change in policing culture if not something like this?
The linked article says he was nicknamed “the rapist” by female coworkers at a previous job before being hired by the met. Thats the sort of thing that should be an instant red flag preventing hiring someone to be a cop, but actual police departments seem not to care about people
In case anyone had forgotten, this is how the Met police (his colleagues) responded to a vigil for Sarah Everard.
For all the horror here, it perversely strikes me as a good sign that at least the UK police are denouncing him now - at least it’s a good sign compared to the US, where I read about cops widely suspected of being serial rapists and murderers and their colleagues just don’t give a shit.
He got the nickname because his female co-workers always found him creepy. And because of the multiple indecent exposure allegations. And because he was known for his penchant for violent pornography. You know, exactly the kind of guy you want to advance to a position where he gets to carry a gun.
Innocence and blamelessness = cisgender and white.
It strikes me as being similar to the police response to the BLM protests (and for the same reason) - “Here, let us prove we’re all as bad as you’re accusing some of us of being!”
Yep; absolutely everyone else “has it coming,” I guess.
blameless
@beschizza Is this some kind of UK legal terminology, or is it a more common general term? I have never heard it used in the US as I can recall.
The memories of being accused of being complicit in my own assault that left me with a concussion are strong.
Maybe it wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t made him angry by existing while trans? - Probably some cop somewhere.
I don’t know of any formal legal use, but when used by British media and commentators it indicates victims who didn’t deserve it.
That seems a bit ridiculous, but maybe a good thing to re-enforce for the people in the back?
The interview with Zoë Billingham this morning is revealing.
What that some women deserve to be raped and murdered if you can dig up any dirt on them? No one gets themselves raped and murdered. Not by being drunk, or ugly, or a prostitute, or annoying, or mentally ill, or literally anything else… ever. Victims don’t need to be sorted into the “blameful” and the “ones we can’t blame” at all. It’s not ridiculous it’s cruel, disgusting, and fucking evil.
That needs to be said for the people up in the front apparently too.
I suppose that is one way to look at it. But another is that it re-enforces the concept of victims being blameless? That is assuming they are applying the label consistently and not “sorted”, as you say. They are all “blameless”.
