And, the lettering confirms that those cartridges are, in fact, from WCC brand .45 ACP rounds, so @Shana was right! (I looked it up out of curiosity.)
Cool bracelet; it reminds me of the jewelry we had on here a week or so ago which was made from melted down gun parts and cartridges. I think this is a cooler idea though, because the materials are still recognizable. I also like the bike chain bracelet. Very neat stuff.
Less snidely and more informatively: the base of a cartridge has a groove that runs around the perimeter, and the cord is sunk into that groove.
After removing the bases the rest of the cartridge cases might make interesting tube beads, too. If you wanted to get fancy you could etch designs into them, or sweat solder sheet-brass appliques onto them, or a metal of a contrasting color.
