He looks like Mike Dukakis. Only less manly.
It’s not that I think Trump is a decent human being. It’s just that the political commentary on BoingBoing BBS is becoming more of a hate-filled cess pool than Fox News. My initial comment was mostly to suggest that we stop the knee-jerk “since I don’t like Trump, everything Trump says and does must therefore be bad” narrative. Maybe some people like the echo chamber, but at least for my, it’s getting kind of boring.
Yeah well, you can take your trump sympathizing and piss off then. Good riddance.
If you don’t even believe Trump is a decent human being (a pretty darn low bar for anyone to meet, let alone the POTUS) then why take issue with the hatred directed toward him?
He could resign- it’s a win-win!
The twenty or so hours you’ve spent with an account here have seen an unusual amount of change.
Interesting that you’re like the second or third “brand new” member to attempt to play devil’s advocate; making the same comparison recently, pretty much verbatim.
Still flinching away from the bald eagle.
So you picked the most implausible and perhaps the most offensive thing he’s said in the past week, and decided that’s what you’re going to defend?
You’re not very good at this, are you?
She has to start laying her golden thread somewhere. Wait, that’s not a thread…
See now, that’s not quite what the problem is here. The problem is that pretty much everything he says and does is bad.
The hate and piling on just sort of naturally follows.
C’money guys! Concede that a broken clock is right at least twice per day!
The idiocy spouted by President Blimp defies satire. Arming teachers is a sure-fire recipe for friendly fire casualties. That Huckabee Sanders can “state” something the president categorically did not say, and yet was not called out on it? Surely proof there’s no chance of a nuanced and rational solution.
Hi Jason,
I’ve been a regular reader of BoingBoing for 10 or so years. I remember when BoingBoing BBS was created, and I’ve checked the comments off and on since then. So, I have a pretty good feel for how the board has progressed. As good as anyone else on here.
I like BoingBoing because I’m a geek and I like geeky things. In that regard, I’ve found in BoingBoing a community that I mostly identify with. However, the headlines on the front page of BoingBoing these past coupld of years have increasingly veered off into those of a drunk, obnoxious uncle spewing unwelcome political opinions to a captive audience at Thanksgiving Dinner. If the other commenters are correct that there have been others posting the same concerns recently (and it wasn’t me, promise. If you think so, I don’t give a shit), then that might be something to take a look at.
The problem is that when anyone posts any view even slightly outside the party line, there’s a fucking dog pile, that person gets pissed, they leave and don’t come back. What you end up with is an increasingly narrow-minded, increasingly vulgar, and increasingly extreme echo chamber of individuals, which a quick look at any recent political thread here on BoingBoingBBS will readily confirm.
Because I take issue with hatred in all forms. By anyone, of any political party, and for any cause. Hate makes people unhappy personally, and it makes society an angrier and generally shittier place to live.
You know when multiple people disagree with you they’re all allowed to say so, right?
Absolutely. I definitely didn’t expect a bunch of people to agree with me. And several people who replied and disagreed with me (Brainspore, etc.) were considerate about it. But other people were total dicks.
My main point is, we shouldn’t be dicks to one another on BoingBoing. This isn’t just some random sampling of the general public. We’re a community of geeks, and that alone should be cause for some sort of bond above that of other message boards. Let’s give one another the benefit of the doubt and refrain from being assholes when someone has a differing political view. Then maybe more people with differing opinions will speak up, and we can begin to have a more thoughtful and interesting discussion. It’s boring when everyone agrees on everything. Life isn’t so obviously good or bad. There’s nuance! Nuance is interesting!
