I got the impression (mainly from Cake Boss) that creations of this nature tend to heavily rely on Rice Krispies for structural components. Or do high artists eschew such techniques?

I saw that first picture and I thought “that pig looks ok, but that DUDE is so LIFELIKE, how do you get fur texture out of fondant I wonder?!?!” And then I was like, oh.
