Canadian parents who wanted to raise their 8 kids with "traditional values" moved to Russia. Wife now says, "I'm ready to jump on a plane and get out of here."

Well, they do that here, too.

Please don’t come back.

Love, Canada.

I hope their kids get out. The parents can stay, and in fact I’m quite sure their kids will grow up happier and healthier without them in the long run.

Long ago, I learned to say to homophobes “Oh, mate. They’re not desperate enough to chase you. You’re perfectly safe.”

No, we don’t do that. The Harper regime tried that, but had to limit it to brown people who had another citizenship somehow because, by treaty, we can’t create stateless persons. I don’t think that was tested in court before it was repealed.

Sometimes we get stuck with other people’s problems at way. (Looking you, UK Tories.)

To be fair, Canada has two of these things.

No doubt they were worried that their kids were being taught to be decent human beings at public school and they couldn’t be bothered to homeschool them themselves to prevent that.

Or they could have actually investigated for like, 30 seconds, and discovered that GLBTQ stuff is NOT being ‘promoted’ in schools. Nope, easier to uproot the whole family and move to fucking Russia, where historically it has been a GREAT place to be a farmer.

Huh, and here I thought “go woke or go broke” was a goofy, meaningless tag line. I guess these dorks decided to take it to the extreme.

“We’ve hit the first snag where you have to engage logic in this country and it’s very, very frustrating.”

Says family who moved to a foreign country without learning the language.

For Americans, Russian reality may be particularly difficult to grasp. In Russia, the “inner city” = the beacon of civilisation, surrounded by the impoverished, dangerous, and increasingly depopulated wasteland

It’s only difficult to grasp if one is a right-wing moron. These two Christo-fascists could have had their “paradise” out in the sticks of Alberta, but for their sense of entitlement, their need for attention, and (most critically) their desire that their government “hurt the right people”.

I hope they’re stuck there forever, although the Canadian government should offer to repatriate the kids if they ask .

I hear they’ve been invited to a tea ceremony honoring their completely good decision to move!

JFC. I don’t wish any of it on the kids, but I seriously hope the parents face at least SOME of the bullshit refugees and asylum seekers in America face every day. Here in the US, it’s people who have been forced to leave behind homes and families and careers due to war, famine, or other horrible things.
These guys moved over there because they might have to accept that it’s okay that LGBTQ+ people exist?!?!?!

Look on the bright side, there’s one Russian “traditional value” they can still engage in. . .

Ending up uselessly memorialized on a Russian headstone?

Defenestration?

I’m guessing that @generic_name meant “drinking oneself to death” or simply “alcoholism” (the latter of which Rocketdyne personnel witnessed examples of from the visiting Russian engineers who, in sporadically inebriated states, supported work involving a bunch of US-purchased Energomash RD-180 rocket engines.)

Well, eventually that could happen too, I suppose.
