Cats seem to frequently be perplexed by their own back legs:
Our Old Man Kitteh, Junior, frequently gets the lick response when he scratches. He also has a brush he likes to rub his chin over (see Cow Scratching Brush previously posted) which activates the scratch reflex.
I started calling that “rabbit mode” after my friend’s pet bunny tried to claw the hell out of me with those huge back feet.
Rocky is just multitasking.
It looks like Rocky has opposable thumbs!
There’s a cat that lives up the street from us, named Oscar (but we call him Ponti because he used to fall into our pond when leaping at birds), and he’s slimmed down a lot as he gets older (for a while there he was built like an ottoman - with a tail) but he’s always had this interesting tic: When you scratch his back near the tail to the right side he starts compulsively gnawing at his left fore leg. Not gnawing like he’s trying to eat himself - just digging at it like he’s got an itch. When you stop scratching he immediately stops doing that and looks around with a bewildered expression of: “What the fuck just happened?”. Don’t know why that happens but that and a laser pointer makes Ponti hours of fun.
I think that (one type of stimulus causes another tic) may be overstimulation; I’ve known a lot of cats and some dogs that do that. Witness when you can find the spot on a dog that, when scratched, causes a back leg to thump wildly.
eta: Damn, though, it looks like @Cunk’s cat is boxing his own ears! I wonder if fleas are responsible?
I’m convinced that cats are really a gestalt entity at war with itself. It’s the only thing that makes any sense.
If those guys ever figure out how to operate a can opener humanity is fucked.
Sometimes, in old(er) age, multitasking is still doing two things at once, just with fewer priorities about what those two things need to be. Because time and giving fewer fucks.
maybe he has an itchy tooth.
Cats are awesome!
PS. Imgur embeds suck ass
I think Rocky is a polydactyl cat!
All those thumbed beasties are especially weird.
No, fleas are very irresponsible.
