CDC shortens recommended Covid quarantine time to 5 days, after airlines tell it to

I don’t know if it is happening in the States yet but in Canada the demand for PCR testing has exceeded capacity in several jurisdictions.

It’s definitely happening in Australia.

The various states have opened up, but most of them require a negative PCR test within three days before travelling. It’s Christmas, so lots of people want to go travelling to visit family whom they haven’t seen in two years. So the PCR queues have gone from ridiculous to utterly barking. Like, testing centers closing fifteen minutes after they open because the queue is already at a day’s capacity.

The utterly useless Prime Minister is going to hold an emergency State Cabinet tomorrow with the various Premiers, including the effective (because Western Australia has always considered itself a separate country anyway), the effective despite the death threats (Dan Andrews has earned deep respect from me at least), and the “it’s all too hard why can’t we just give up already” (NSW, where the new Premier Perrottet is trying to be the cool dad to differentiate himself from Berejiklian, the daggy mum whose shitty taste in men wouldn’t be a problem if the anti-corruption inquiry hadn’t recorded her telling her boyfriend to stop telling her about the corruption he was in the process of doing).

So they’re leaping into action by… redefining what “close contact” means, redefining how “quarantine” operates, and outright begging people not to get PCR tests unless they are a defined (under the new rules) close contact and they’ve had a positive RAT, and they’re currently wondering why they can’t smell anything.

And the NSW Premier continues towards his dream of being the “fun” Premier who lets people do stuff by actively telling people to congregate in large numbers in the Sydney CBD for the NYE fireworks.

Western Australia is stressing out over two or three new cases in a week.
South Australia is somewhat more worried having kept a handle on it for all this time, but had over 1400 new cases announced today.
Victoria, the Lockdown capital of the world, has over 3700 new cases today.
And NSW had over 11,000 cases today, up from 6,000 yesterday.

And that’s with more than 90% of adults fully vaxxed.
