The real question is, once the remainder of Trump’s base comes around to openly accepting Klansmen and Nazis into their fold will they still continue using “Hilterly KKKlinton” as a derogatory term?

A failure to you? Sure. A failure by the standards of normal political spindoctoring? Yup. A failure as a statesman representing a liberal democracy? Yes.
A failure at achieving his own goals? No. A failure at advancing the desires of his supporters? Also no.
This statement wasn’t Trump being incompetent or clueless. The words were very carefully chosen, and landed exactly as intended.

The death toll includes two troopers who were killed in a helicopter crash. One death was deliberate; the other two were accidental.

There are still a lot of Trump voters who are in fervent denial and refuse to acknowledge that by supporting him they support a political movement of outright racism and xenophobia. I’m also sure there were people in Nazi Germany happy about being back to work and out of war debt who said things like: Just because I support Hitler doesn’t mean I support everything Hitler does.
Unfortunately it’s that group who adds sufficient numbers to the facists’ voting bloc and falsely legitimizes them enough to embolden them to do things like this.
