It’s like they intentionally lie to us…

Fun, but…would the addition of fresh herbs and such be considered cheating? I’d like to see what he can create using only the elements that come within each box.

Could be, but it’s within that industry tradition known as a “serving suggestion”, er, except that plan to use pencil shavings too look like seasoning because they didn’t have any pepper… :-/

But does it taste like a five-star meal?

I’m thinking it tastes as good as any food-styed food not plated for human consumption…or better, because at least it was cooked before being frozen, unlike the roast turkey used in food photos that is uncooked but has the skin browned to perfection…

I was about to say that w/ the magic of pre-production and photog you can make anything look good, but then I remembered Donald Trump’s face.

I’m reminded of this…

He created a fake business for his shed, took soft-focus shots of “food” (really gaffs like sponges covered in paint with shaving cream garnish), then started gaming the Tripadvisor rankings. Soon, people started to call him asking him for reservations (he always told them he was fully booked).

Once he reached number one, the reservations requests reached a fever pitch. Finally, he relented and opened his “restaurant” for one night, buying frozen TV dinners from the discount supermarket Iceland and serving them to excited diners. He led people to their tables wearing blindfolds and created a whole show around the service of these meals.

Probably not, but likely better than they’d taste just eating out of the tv dinner tray. As the germans say, “Die Augen essen mit.”

one lens (NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.8S).

Judging from this video, I’m guessing that the 35mm f 1.8S isn’t image stabilized. I feel like I’m watching a Lars Von Trier film.

Truth is…you do eat with your eyes first. So yes a dish should and needs to look good. That is one part of many that go into judging “How good was this meal”

Ultimately the decision is mostly about taste. So its great the photographer can practice his skills to take great photos, but in the end it still may suck.

This is an typical food made in Rome, the trick is to use real mozzarella or fior di latte and not cheap knockoffs, it works the same with pizza:

I make these and it gets tricky to get the inner part melty and the outside fried right.

They are better as left overs sometimes when you microwave them low and slow then pop 'em in the oven for the crisping.

So tasty… and I now have to go make them for dinner.

A documentary made by one of my former guest professors, Harun Farocki. English title: How You See It.

Weaving machines, food advertising production, even dubbing for porn are covered.
