Is new beat still OK?

The genre was “accidentally invented” in the nightclub Ancienne Belgique (AB) in Antwerp when DJ Dikke Ronny (literally “Fat Ronny”) played the 45 rpm EBM record “Flesh” by A Split-Second at 33 rpm, with the pitch control set to +8.

There are plenty of tools around today that do a good job of realistically tweaking the speed of audio recordings. We could be at the dawn of a new age in adjusted musics!

Who defines the BPM? You might say the song is in 4/4 at 120 BPM, but I say it’s 3/4 at 90 BPM and you’re just misunderstanding the phrasing.

I suspect that getting clever would go poorly in a jurisdiction where the security forces may or may not be familiar with music theory; but are downright notorious for their ability and willingness to make you sing.

In Chechnya ‘beats per minute’ does not usually refer to music.
